Setup steps- install gcc and svn, you don't need opengl or x11 dev packages svn checkout Irrlicht https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/irrlicht/trunk uncomment the _IRR_USE_CONSOLE_DEVICE_ line in include/IrrCompileConfig.h cd source/Irrlicht, type make edit /examples/01.HelloWorld/main.cpp and change the device size to 80x40 build the example like shown.
